Novice King Route(s) Under 20K

Below is a classic short tour of approximately 16 kilometres, visiting Eaton Country Estate (Seneca College), with a stop in the village of King City with its many classical heritage buildings.  Pictured as well is Hogan's Inn and Crawford Wells General Store; two fine examples of such buildings.

For dining and refreshment while in the King City area, Shoeless Joe's and Country Style are located at the eastern end of the village, Hogan's Inn and The Hunt Pub at the corner of Keele and King Road, and Kosmos Restaurant is located just south of King Road on the east side of Keele Street. We hope you enjoy your ride and visit.

King Township Sights Along This Route

The novice tour runs approximately 16 kilometres, from the parking lot at the northwest corner of Keele and King Road, to Marylake, the Eaton Estate and back to King City via Dufferin.
Marylake was the summer estate of Sir Henry Pellat (the builder of Casa Loma), and is now owned by the Augustinian fathers. The original gates and gatehouse, the barn and the "cottage" just to the north of the barn are original structures, and are both unique and stunning. The church and other structures; also somewhat unusual in design have been added over the years. Feel free to have a peaceful picnic lunch down on the shores of the lake.

The Eaton Estate (now Seneca College) maintains much of the grandeur established in the early part of the 20th century. With the barns, the greenhouses, boathouse, guest cottage (Villa Fiori) and the manor house (Eaton Hall), it is a classic and well maintained throwback to what some may think of as the Gatsby Era. Enjoy the picturesque and pleasant ride to the Manor house and feel free to tour the grounds.

King City (originally Springhill) has many of its original homes lining King Road.
